“…for you have in your possession a sacred trust. Guard it well.”
B.J Palmer, Developer of Chiropractic

B.J. Palmer’s last written words were about Trust. He dedicated his life to sharing chiropractic in its purest form to the world. His father had entrusted him with chiropractic and Palmer College of Chiropractic has continued the tradition. This trust is one that principle chiropractors do not take lightly.

Trust is the foundation to all good things. We innately seek people that we can trust. When we are entrusted it is a deep sign of respect and love. I am certain that trust is the prerequisite to healing.

Stephen R. Covey exemplified trust in his teaching and in the way he lived. I had a conversation with Stephen R.Covey that really influenced me. He told me of an experience that he had in the 90’s during the clinton presidency. He was helping President Clinton put move past the big scandal and controversy at the time. He was asked by a leading television network to do an interview. Stephen R. Covey said that he would do the on one condition: He would not discuss or answer any questions about the President. The network agreed and scheduled a 1 hour block of television time.. When Stephen showed up to do the interview he was asked some preliminary questions. Then the interview started to ask questions about the President. Stephen responded by saying he will not discuss the president. The interviewer pointed out that millions of americans were looking forward to important information and that that is what the discussion will be about. Stephen stated that he cannot betray the President’s trust. The interviewer then said “ I guess we don’t have anything to talk about.” Stephen R. Covey politely replied “ I guess not.” He got up out of his chair and left with most of the allotted time still remaining. This left the interviewer speechless. It showed to millions of americans what it is to Trust.

He stood by the principles he taught and lived by. He showed that he can be trusted despite intense pressure. He taught me that you cannot force people to be trustworthy but you can be an example of trust. Maintaining one’s integrity is more rewarding and lasting that any other reward.

Earning trust takes time. Loosing trust is instantaneous. It takes consistently doing the right thing over time to build trust.

Millions of patients have entrusted chiropractic with their health. This is not a responsibility that we take lightly. I am grateful for the thousands of people that have trusted me with their health. I look forward to earning the trust of many more.
