A lot has changed in the past 100 years since the industrial revolution. We are living in the age of the technological revolution. So much changes so quickly that it is hard to keep up with the ever emerging new ideas and innovations. In fact, the only thing that is constant , is change.

Our modern way of life moves us quickly in a direction so different than the way our ancestors lived. One constant variable remains, what our bodies innately need to be healthy. Artificial environments begat artificial solutions. However, it is never a good idea to trick nature. We are wild animals living in captivity. The requirements for life are so deeply ingrained that even the slightest deviation produces dysfunction and disease.

This generation has discovered widespread unintended consequences from our technological obsession. It is found among our youth in epidemic proportions. This new phenomenon is called Text Neck!

“As more and more children are raised on technology and they spend all day every day with their heads in a flexed (Text Neck) posture, this is putting damaging pressure on their spine, spinal nerves and their spinal cord and this will result in devastating health conditions as their spines compress and decay due to misalignment and compression.” Dr. Matt Glass D.C.

X-ray imaging reveal a reversal in the cervical curve of the neck previously seen in cases of severe trauma. These postural changes are not insignificant. We would be wise to not ignore the science behind what is occurring.

Text neck is reverse evolution. It is taking a step in the wrong direction. The ligaments and muscles of the neck strain to hold up the weight of the skull. The more the head is down, the more heavy it becomes. Tremendous pressure builds up in the spine. The brain stem is stretched and compressed.

Headaches, migraines, insomnia, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, and many other debilitating health issues arise from Text neck and the Upper Cervical Subluxation complex it creates. Medications and other procedures seek to address the symptoms of a growing problem but often fall short of a lasting solution.

We first need to acknowledge that text neck is a problem and use technology in a safer, more responsible way in order to prevent lasting spinal injury. Children need to be taught about the importance of maintaining proper posture for their health. Corrective chiropractic care is necessary to stabilize and correct text neck. We need to address the current issue and to prevent forthcoming health challenges now and 5, 10 , 20 years down the road.
